Even though I am currently undertaking an English degree, I stupidly decided to take Film Studies as a little side-order, thinking that surely learning about films would be a blast and ultimately easier than learning more English type things. Right? SO Wrong.
Not only am I forcing my brain to remember the process of financing independent films and how Hollywood is the dominant, pulsating, evil force of the American film industry, I am actually neglecting my 'real' subject in order to do so.
James Joyce?
Pat Barker?
Angela Carter?
Douglas Coupland?
All forgotten beneath the sinister weight of FILMS.
It makes me not want to revise one bit.
I have therefore tried to distract myself from the inevitable 'ohIamgoingtofailwhyamInnotworkingdoworkD OSOMETHING' by:
-Myspace Stalking.
An ever-increasing form of relaxation, merely because I find sadistic pleasure in viewing the profiles of previously-known friends and well, judging them. Yes Bobby has so far dropped out of three universities, Jim has an eight month old child and Hyacinth is currently on her eleventh 'love' of the year.
All names have been changed, obviously, but I do take an abnormal amount of interest in what people who once were part of my life are doing now. From a distance obviously. And if you think that's obscenely judgemental, then people should not post things on the internet that make them appear idiotic. They are clearly 'asking for it'. Gangster style.
and
-Eating Crunchy Nut Clusters.
Everytime I prepare myself this rather delicious treat I assume that when I'm done I will immediately turn back to work. Unfortunately, a five minute snack turns into a fourty minute distraction and before you know it, I'm on msn giving advice that I do not absolutely understand myself but others seem to discover solace in.
Chance of passing the exam? I'd give it a 3:2 fail/pass ratio, but technically it doesn't count, as Film Studies is not real!
However, just in case you are interested, there are a lot of Banks that fund independent films, at 60% of their budget, with a 6% interest rate. This is appalling. This rate is so much higher than loans of similar size that banks distribute to other areas of industry.
It's sickening. But there you go, misjustice and so forth.
Right. Revision? Myspace? Cereal?
Decisions!!
xx
